Your Berlin to Poznań Day Trip: Why Poznań Should Be Your Next Mini-Adventure

So you’re wondering if you can take a Berlin to Poznan day trip if you found this post. Maybe you live in Berlin and want to explore more what you’ll find outside Berlin and Brandenburg or you’re happen to be in Berlin for a few days and want to take a day away from the loud city.

Can you do a day trip to Poland from Berlin?

Yes, you can definitely take a day trip to Poznan from Berlin! And it’s easy to accomplish it as Poznan is not that far from Berlin. I will give you more details on how you reach Poznan with any means available in Berlin.

Is Poznań, Poland worth visiting?

Based on my experience, yes, Poznan is worth visiting and I consider Poznan as one of the underrated cities in Poland. If you like a small charming city which is not full of tourists and bustle, then you gotta visit Poznan.

Poznań is one of the earliest political and religious centers of Poland. Poznań Cathedral is believed to be the burial place of the first Polish kings.

Compared to Warsaw, Wrocław, or Gdańsk, Poznań is easy to reach on foot, close together and well-organized for a one-day visit – this makes it perfect for day trippers coming from Berlin.

If you love walking, the Old Town is only 15-20 minutes walk from the main station in Poznan. Posen is the German word for Poznań.

How to travel to Poznań from Berlin

Travel with car from Berlin to Poznań

If you travel with your own car, it only takes 3 hours if you start your journey from Berlin’s main station.

blablacar ride to Poznan, Poland

Alternatively, you can also book a ride via BlaBlaCar if you don’t have a car of your own. It doesn’t cost that much and you can have breaks if you want – you only need to arrange it with the driver.

If you’re a woman and traveling alone, you just be careful as you might be alone with the driver.

But sometimes, there are also passengers riding with you with the same destination. Just to be on a safer side, choose a driver who has already good reviews which means he can be trusted.

To book a ride, you can download the app BlaBlaCar or you can directly sign up on your browser.

The app or website doesn’t cost extra to get a ride. You don’t have to pay immediately and only if the ride or the driver already confirmed it.

Travel with bus from Berlin to Poznan

You can also travel with bus if traveling with car is not an option for you or if you don’t want to share a ride with other passengers in a small car.

In fact, I can only recommend traveling with bus to Poznań especially with Flixbus. You have a WC inside the bus and you can charge your mobile phone as well.

Traveling with Flixbus is also the best option if you’re looking for an affordable ride and if you don’t want to drive with your own car.

Travel with train from Berlin to Poznań

Honestly, I don’t recommend this option as this is more pricey than riding with Flixbus or BlaBlacar. Aside from that, you travel longer than 3 hours as you can see below. But if you can afford it and ready to pay for that kind of price, it’s your choice anyway.

So what makes Poznań so special and what is it famous for?

As we travelled with bus from Berlin, we also got off near the main station and from there, you will see the Karola Marcinkowskiego park, an urban park with a beautiful lake and a pond where ducks and swans swim.

From the main station, the park is only a couple minutes walk which is convenient for walking or if you’re waiting for your bus or ride. You can also feed the birds and ducks there and sit on the benches which are fortunately not occupied by homeless people (unlike in Berlin parks!).

As we were already quite hungry from the travel, we decided to look for something to eat before we went to our AirBnb accommodation.

So we found Pizza Hut in the nearest mall which is also very near to the station and the park – which was really convenient for us.

So aside from strolling in the park which is not a home of many beggars and homies, you can do more than that in Poznan.

Cat Puddings, Croissants & Goats

Jiggly Cat Pudding

You might have seen the viral jiggly cat-shaped pudding (often called “cat pudding”) on Instagram or TikTok (like I did) so I told my boyfriend, I want to try it too. That cat pudding was actually one of the reasons why I wanted to go to Poznan.

If you want to break up your day trip with something different from traditional Polish fare, this cat pudding in Kuchi Sabishii is a trendy and delicious option.

The restaurant is also known for its Japanese sando sandwiches, which are a modern, gourmet take on traditional Japanese sandwich-style dishes.

The interior has a cozy-chic, almost minimalist but very stylish vibe — with a “pink corner” that’s super Instagrammable and comfy sofas.

No Berlin to Poznań day trip is complete without diving into one of the city’s most beloved (and tastiest) traditions — the story of the St. Martin’s Croissant. And the best place to experience it is at the wonderfully quirky Poznań Croissant Museum, located right in the heart of the Old Market Square.

Rogalowe Muzeum Poznania – The Croissant Museum

Stepping into the Croissant Museum feels a bit like joining a friendly, slightly chaotic cooking show run by locals who genuinely love sharing their city’s traditions. Here, you don’t just watch croissants being made — you get to participate in the process, learn Poznań legends, listen to stories told in the regional dialect, and laugh along with the interactive demonstrations.

The atmosphere is warm, humorous, and surprisingly informative. Even if you’ve visited dozens of museums on your travels, this one will stick with you.

By the way, shows are popular! Booking ahead is smart for a day trip so you won’t miss while you’re in Poznan.

The Legend of the St. Martin’s Croissant

Once you’ve learned how this iconic pastry is made, make sure you try an authentic Rogal Świętomarciński — Poznań’s beloved St. Martin’s Croissant.
Imagine this: a flaky, buttery croissant packed with a sweet white poppy seed filling, topped with icing and nuts. It’s rich, indulgent, and completely unique to the region. This isn’t just a treat — it’s a piece of Poznań’s identity.

You can taste it at the museum, or grab one at bakeries around the Old Town; look for signs showing it’s made according to the protected, traditional recipe.

And we got certificates for watching the croissant show!

The Goat Show – A Must at Noon!

Now, here’s where the experience gets even more whimsical.

Every day at 12:00 sharp, two mechanical goats pop out from a small door above the clock on the Poznań Town Hall. They lower their heads… and butt each other. Twelve times.
It’s adorable, funny, and one of the city’s most beloved traditions — and crowds gather in the Old Market Square daily to watch the show.

The best part? If you time your Croissant Museum visit right, you can watch the Goat Show  — just like we did!

It’s lighthearted, family-friendly, and uniquely Poznań — the kind of travel moment you end up telling everyone about when you get home.

What else can you experience in Poznan?

When you’re tired of german foods or asian food, you should definitely try polish foods like we did in Poland. I don’t even know or remember their names but if you can name a few, feel free to comment it like the one below.

Window Shopping, Cute Finds & Fashion Inspiration in Poznań

One thing that genuinely surprised me during my Berlin to Poznań day trip was just how stylish and put-together Polish women are. Everywhere we walked — through Old Town, along Święty Marcin Street, or just browsing near the shopping centers — I kept noticing chic coats, elegant boots, and effortless, minimalist outfits.
Poznań might not be the first city you think of for fashion, but trust me, the style here is strong.

Strolling Through Boutique-Lined Streets

As we wandered through the colorful streets around the Old Market Square, we kept stumbling into small independent boutiques — the kind that feel like treasure chests.

Every store felt different, and many had that “I’ve never seen this anywhere else” vibe. If you love browsing for unique, non-touristy souvenirs, Poznań is a goldmine.

Mall Shopping — With a Fun Twist

We eventually made our way into one of Poznań’s big shopping malls (and there are a few right in the city center). Inside, we were expecting the usual international brands… but then we stumbled into something unexpected:
👉 a full Asian store tucked inside the mall — and it was amazing.

Whether you’re browsing for gifts, admiring outfits passing by, or just soaking in the city’s fashionable energy, Poznań makes it easy to slow down and enjoy the moment.
