It’s that time of the year again. As winter was approaching its end this year, I began working on my balcony and my plants with the help of my boyfriend. While buying things I needed for planting, I realized gardening terms are not common in everyday life.

So I decided to write this post – garden in German and how to say garden in German with terms about plants, flowers and common gardening terms.

So here’s a comprehensive list of German gardening vocabulary, organized by categories for easier learning.

But before that, let’s talk about first how to say garden in German.

der Garten – garden

Some pronounce the word garten with a rolling r but can be challenging for non-German speakers.

But there’s an easier version of this pronunciation, which is slightly pronouncing the ‘r’ consonant like you can barely hear it.

Think of the word gotten.
